Bauhinia variegata is commonly known as Kachnar. It is a deciduous, medium-sized tree. It belongs to Fabaceae family. It typically grows between 6 to 10 meters in height. It is easily recognized by its unique, two-lobed leaves. The leaves resemble a camel's hoof or a butterfly. During the late winter and early spring, the tree produces striking, fragrant flowers. They have five asymmetrical petals. The petals appear in shades of pink, purple, or white, often with one petal exhibiting darker variegation. The tree also bears long, flat seed pods. Each pod contain several seeds. It thrives in well-drained soils. It is commonly grown in semi-arid and tropical climates. It is commonly found on slopes, in open forests, and often cultivated in urban landscapes. Kachnar is native to the subtropical and tropical regions of Asia. It's now a popular tree for beauty and utility in many warm places around the world. It is indigenous to the Indian subcontinent and extends through Southeast Asia.
