Plant Profile
Shilajit, known scientifically as Asphaltum punjabianum, is a thick, tar-like resin. It seeps from cracks in mountain rocks when summer heat peaks. It forms over centuries. This happens through the slow breakdown and compression of organic plant matter. Microbial activity also plays a role, getting trapped between tectonic layers. Geographically, it is primarily harvested at high altitudes between 1,000 and 5,000 meters in the Himalayan and Tibetan ranges of India.

Healthcare Perspective
In Ayurveda, Shilajit is known as a Rasayana, or rejuvenating tonic. It’s known as the "Conqueror of Mountains" and the "Destroyer of Weakness." This herb helps balance the three doshas, especially Vata and Kapha. It’s valued for its Yogavahi property, meaning it boosts the absorption and effectiveness of other herbs. It is used in many traditional healthcare practices. It boosts overall health. It increases physical stamina, sharpens mental clarity, and helps with healthy aging. It's often used to support urinary tract health and metabolic balance. It also serves as a mineral-rich boost for anyone feeling seasonal fatigue or tiredness from high altitudes. In modern wellness, purified Shilajit powder boosts mitochondrial function. It also enhances overall vitality.

Phytochemical Composition
Shilajit powder is complex. It has a high level of humic substances and trace elements. Its main active ingredients are fulvic acid, which makes up 60% to 80% of its organic mass. This acid acts as a strong carrier molecule. It also contains humic acid and hymatomelanic acid. The substance is rich in dibenzo-alpha-pyrones and their derivatives, important for energy metabolism. Additionally, it has over 84 ionic minerals and trace elements, like iron, copper, zinc, magnesium, and selenium, all in a form the body can easily use. The profile is rounded out by an array of amino acids, triterpenes, phenolic lipids, and benzoic acid, all of which contribute to its status as a potent mineral-pitch phytocomplex.
