Controlled airflow, strict cleanroom protocols and continuously monitored environments ensure freshness and quality remain intact from arrival to dispatch. All our operations run on SAP systems and are supported by Organic, FFL, GMP, FSSC 22000, FSMA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and several other accreditations and certifications.

Alkanna tinctoria, commonly known as Alkanet or Dyer’s Bugloss. It is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Boraginaceae family. It has a prostrate growth habit. It has bristly, lance-shaped leaves. It is best known for its trumpet-shaped flowers. These flowers change in color from bright blue to deep violet. It also has a thick, dark red root. The root contains a potent purple-red pigment. The plant is native to the Mediterranean region. It is also found in India’s dry, sandy soils and coastal environments. Its highly resilient in arid conditions. Historically, it has been used as a natural dye source. This has led to its spread across rocky terrains. Today, it is found in many temperate regions worldwide.
Healthcare Perspective
In Ayurveda, Alkanna tinctoria is often referred to as Ratanjot. It is primarily valued for its topical and Varnya (complexion-supporting) properties. Traditionally, the root is infused in carrier oils. Common oils include coconut or sesame. This process imparts a deep red hue. These oil infusions are used to support skin integrity and provide a soothing effect. In Ayurveda, its considered cooling in nature. It is leveraged in formulations intended to balance Pitta (internal heat) in the skin. Beyond India, Alkanet has a long history of use. Phytochemical Composition

Its enantiomer, shikonin and various ester are also present. These include acetylalkannin. Together, these pigments act as primary bioactive markers for the species.
