General Usage
Traditionally, T. cordifolia (Guduchi) is used in treatment of fever, jaundice, chronic diarrhea, Cancer, dysentery, Bone fracture, and insect bites. There is a higher alkaloid content in the stems of Guduchi that makes it important in Ayurveda. As a medha rasayana, guduchi has been useful for treatment of bhrama (Vertigo). Further, guduchi stem is used for its Anti-inflammatory, Anti-arthritic and Anti-osteoporotic Activities.
Overview
Tinospora cordifolia (Guduchi) is a large, glabrous, perennial, deciduous, climbing shrub found across the Indian subcontinent. The shrub belongs to the family Menispermaceae. The stem of T. cordifolia show anti-diabetic, antipyretic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, antioxidant, anti-allergic, anti-stress, anti-leprotic, antimalarial, hepato-protective, immuno-modulatory and anti-neoplastic activities.
