General Usage
In Ayurveda, Haritaki as a constituent of Triphala has been termed useful in the treatment of enlarged liver, stomach disorders, and pain in the eyes. Traditionally, haritaki fruit is used in the treatment of asthma, bleeding piles, sore throat, vomiting, and gout. In ancient texts, it is described as a carminative, astringent, and expectorant. The fruit is used both internally and externally for medicinal purposes.

Terminalia chebula (Haritaki) from the family Combretaceae has great therapeutic value in Ayurveda and alternative medicine. Haritaki fruit is a prime ingredient in Triphala, a unique ayurvedic mix with multiple benefits. The fruit of T. chebula possesses antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antidiabetic, antimutagenic, antioxidant, antiulcer, and wound healing properties. Haritaki fruit is classified into 7 types, and ‘vijaya’ is considered the best one.
