General Usage
Traditionally, the roots of Plumbago zeylanica are used to stimulate the central nervous system. In Ayurveda, chitrak roots are described as absorbents that pacify all three doshas. They are also used in the treatment of leprosy, inflammation, piles, and worms. The root powder of chitrak is important in curing diarrhea.
Overview
Plumbago zeylanica (Chitrak) Roots are reputed thermogenic, astringent, anthelmintic, abortifacient, carminative, appetizer, and expectorant. The chitrak roots are a major source of plumbagin and have been used in Ayurveda for a long time as an anti-atherogenic, cardiotonic, hepatoprotective, and neuroprotective agent.
