General Usage
The fruit of Phyllanthus emblica is used in Ayurveda as a potent Rasayana. In traditional medicine, amla fruit is used for the treatment of diarrhea, jaundice, and inflammation. Amla fruit has antitumor, antigenotoxic, anticancer, antioxidant, and ant carcinogenic effects. Amla has been described as one of the best ‘Rasayan’ that aids in brightening the skin, purifying the blood, and improving eyesight. Because of Amla’s Vrishya (strength provider) and Rasayana (immunity) properties develops immunity against infections and illnesses. Owing to its Ruksha (dryness) – Kashya (astringent) properties, Amla also controls Kapha.
Overview
Phyllanthus emblica (Amla) belongs to Phyllanthaceae (Euphorbiaceae) family and is found in the tropical and subtropical regions across India and Southeast Asia. Amla, alone or in combination with other herbs, has great medicinal significance across the nutraceutical industry. The amla fruit is also popular as Indian gooseberry. The fruit is nutritious and an important dietary source of vitamin C, amino acids, and minerals.
