Ferula asafoetida has been used as a spice and folk medicine for centuries across the world. The oleo-gum-resin is a traditional medicine for curing asthma, ulcer, epilepsy, stomach-ache, flatulence, bronchitis, intestinal parasites, and weak digestion. Asafoetida is also considered effective for several stomach disorders. It also has antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiviral, and antifungal properties.

Ferula asafoetida is herbaceous plant of the umbelliferae family. The Oleo-gum-resin is widely popular as a spice/condiment in Indian cuisine. Today it is extensively used in nutraceutical industry for the treatment of hysteria, some nervous conditions, bronchitis, asthma and whooping cough. It is antispasmodic, carminative, expectorant, laxative, and sedative in nature.
