The Brassica nigra seeds have great significance in the nutraceutical industry and Ayurvedic medicine. They possess great cancer preventive and therapeutic potential. Brassica nigra seeds have been associated with cancer chemoprevention as well. In Europe, it is used as a cough suppressant. In Canada, it is used to treat respiratory infections.
Overview
Brassica nigra (Mustard/ Black mustard), family Brassicaceae, is generally obtained from ground seeds of the plant with seed coats removed. They are rich in ethanolic, hexane and ethyl acetate extracts. They are very flavorful and a prime condiment/ spice in Indian cuisine. B. nigra seed extract may have an important anticancer potential against human lung cancer.
