Overview
Azadirachta indica (Neem) is a member of the Meliaceae family and widely available across India. Every part of the tree has significance in Ayurveda because of its great health promoting effects. This is a common ingredient across pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals these days. Neem leaves are compound, imparipinnate, with each comprising 5–15 leaflets. Compounds like nimbin, nimbanene, 6-desacetylnimbinene, nimbandiol, nimbolide, ascorbic acid, n-hexacosanol and amino acid, and nimbiol have antibacterial and antifungal properties.
