All our operations run on SAP systems and are supported by Organic, FFL, GMP, FSSC 22000, FSMA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and several other accreditations and certifications.

Plant Profile
Terminalia bellirica, commonly known as Bibhitaki or Baheda, is a tall forest tree native to the Indian subcontinent. It can grow between 20 and 50 meters in height and often develops a wide, supportive base at the trunk. The bark is thick and bluish-grey, with shallow cracks running along its length. The leaves are broad and oval and tend to gather at the ends of branches. The useful part of the plant is the outer layer of the fruit, not the seed. This fruit is round to slightly oval and measures about 1.5 to 2.5 cm across. Its surface feels soft and velvety and appears grey in color. As the fruit dries, faint lengthwise ridges can be seen. Bibhitaki grows widely across India in natural forest areas. It is also cultivated in managed forests and agro-forest regions.
Healthcare Perspective
In Ayurveda, the seedless fruit of Terminalia bellirica is called Bibhitaki. The name reflects the belief that the herb helps protect the body from disease. It is one of the three main ingredients in the traditional Triphala formulation and is valued as a Rasayana, or rejuvenating support. Bibhitaki has a warming effect on the body and an astringent taste. Because of this, it is mainly used to balance Kapha and Pitta doshas. Traditionally, Bibhitaki is used to support lung and throat comfort. It helps calm coughs and reduce excess mucus. It is also used to maintain digestive balance. When the fruit is unripe, it acts gently on the bowels. When fully ripe, it helps tighten and tone digestive tissues. Beyond internal use, Bibhitaki is included in traditional hair preparations to support growth and help retain natural color. It is also used in eye formulations to support clear and comfortable vision.
Phytochemical Composition
The activity of Terminalia bellirica fruit comes mainly from its high tannin content. Tannins can make up about 20 to 40 percent of the dried outer fruit. Important tannins include gallic acid, ellagic acid, and chebulagic acid. These compounds are responsible for the fruit’s strong astringent and antioxidant effects.
The outer fruit layer contains more active compounds than the seed. These include flavonoids such as luteolin and quercetin, along with phenolic compounds like ethyl gallate. The fruit also contains unique lignans, including termilignan and thannilignan. In addition, it provides triterpenoid saponins such as belleric acid and its glycoside, bellericoside. While the seeds mainly contain oils, the seedless fruit is valued for these polyphenols and glycosides, which support metabolism and immune balance.
