Controlled airflow, strict cleanroom protocols and continuously monitored environments ensure freshness and quality remain intact from arrival to dispatch. All our operations run on SAP systems and are supported by Organic, FFL, GMP, FSSC 22000, FSMA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and several other accreditations and certifications.

Myristica fragrans, the source of the aromatic spices nutmeg and mace, is a medium-sized evergreen tree typically reaching 5 to 13 meters in height, characterized by its dense, conical crown and dark green, leathery leaves. This dioecious species produces small, bell-shaped, pale yellow flowers that give way to yellow, peach-like fruits which split upon maturity to reveal a single, shiny, deep brown seed encased in a lacy, crimson-red aril. Originally indigenous only to the Banda Islands in the Maluku archipelago of Indonesia, the species has been widely introduced across the humid tropics and is now extensively cultivated in southern India—particularly in Kerala.

In Ayurveda, Myristica fragrans is known as Jatiphala and is classified as having a pungent, bitter, and astringent taste with a heating potency. It is traditionally used to balance Kapha and Vata doshas and is highly regarded for its ability to improve digestion, treat intestinal discomfort, and act as a natural sedative to promote restful sleep. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, known as Rou Dou Kou, it is primarily used to warm the middle burner and astringe the intestines, making it a common remedy for chronic diarrhea and abdominal cold. Other healthcare systems, including Siddha and various folk traditions in the Caribbean and Southeast Asia, apply the spice topically for headaches and muscle aches or use it internally as a carminative to relieve flatulence and stimulate the appetite.
Phytochemical Composition
The chemical profile of Myristica fragrans is defined by a complex mixture of volatile and non-volatile secondary metabolites that contribute to its distinctive aroma and physiological effects. The primary active constituents are found within its essential oil, which typically comprises 5% to 15% of the seed's weight and is rich in phenylpropanoids such as myristicin, elemicin, and safrole, as well as monoterpenes like sabinene, alpha-pinene, and limonene. Myristicin is notably recognized for its psychoactive and sedative potential, while phenolic compounds like eugenol provide significant antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Additionally, the seeds contain a substantial amount of fixed oil, often called "nutmeg butter," which is largely composed of trimyristin, a triglyceride of myristic acid. The plant also produces various lignans and neolignans, such as macelignan, which have been studied for their anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activities.
