DESCRIPTION

Plant Profile
Hemidesmus indicus, also called Anantmool, is a thin, climbing shrub that grows in many parts of India. It has a woody stem and produces a milky sap. Its roots are the most important part of the plant. They are long, bent, and cylindrical with dark brown bark and a pale inside. The roots have a sweet, vanilla-like smell. Anantmool grows naturally across India, from the northern plains to Assam, and in central, western, and southern regions. It is also grown for its medicinal use.

Healthcare Perspective
Anantmool is used in Ayurveda as a cooling herb and blood purifier. It helps balance all three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha and is especially helpful for reducing Pitta problems. The roots are used to treat skin problems like eczema and psoriasis, improve urinary health, and support digestion. In folk and Siddha medicine, the roots are also used to reduce fevers, detoxify the body, boost energy, and treat snake or scorpion bites. The plant was even included in the British Pharmacopoeia in 1864 for its healing properties.

Phytochemical Composition
The roots of Anantmool contain natural chemicals that make it medicinal. The main compound is 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde, which gives the vanilla smell. The plant also has pregnane glycosides, coumarino-lignoids, triterpenoids, flavonoids, saponins, and phytosterols. These compounds help purify the blood, reduce inflammation, and support overall health.

Precautions
Do not use if you have abdominal pain or diarrhea. Consult a healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking any medications. Discontinue use if diarrhea or loose stools occur. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Not intended for long-term use.
